Of all the gadgets we've gotten for our cats over the years (electronic feeder, self-cleaning litter box, battery operated toys) this one has withstood the test of time. Both of our tabbies love it. The first few days they were afraid of it, but they got used to it. We add water every few days to avoid the gurgling noise it makes when water is running low (we do not have the "reservoir").
Every once in a while I like to give the motor a rest, so I shut off the fountain. It does not have an on/off button so you have to unplug it. We replace filter every few months (relatively inexpensive purchase). And we clean out the mechanism every couple of weeks with a bottle brush.
Anyway our cats are healthy & hydrated, and the fountain is a nice addition to our kitchen.
