Album Description
Dreamworks presents Madagascar 2 Escape Africa release in 2008. Music and songs features will.i.am and Hans Zimmer. After escaping Madagascar on a plane, the animals' plan to return to NYC is thwarted when they crash land in Africa. Initially, the animals are delighted to finally be among their own kind inthe wild, yet life in Africa turns out to be different from what they anticipated. The follow up to the successful animated movie hit Madagascar has all of the characters back.

My brother got this CD for my son this Christmas. We had enjoyed the movie so much, he went and found the sound track. The songs on here are great and my 5 year old loves to dance to the music!

5 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack That Isn't Getting Fair Reviews Here...   November 19, 2008

Alright, so I almost didn't buy this album due to the (almost all) negative reviews posted here on Amazon. Thank God I did, because this is a wonderful CD. My goal in the next few paragraphs is to offset the bad reviews and give you a better understanding on whether or not to purchase this CD.

Let me first start off by giving you three reasons to add this to your cart. Number 1: If you or your kids liked the movie. Number 2: If you are a Hans Zimmer fan. Number 3: If you are a Will-I-Am fan.

My soul reasoning for purchasing this CD was that I collect Mr. Zimmer's soundtracks, (44 including Madagascar 2). For the reviewer who asked, "Hans Zimmer, where are you?" How about tracks, 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16 and 17? Are you kidding me? There is plenty of Hans Zimmer on this CD! Track 1 (Once Upon A Time In Africa) has a fantastic (almost four minute) orchestral piece; Track 2 (The Traveling Song) is a fun Hip Hoppish song with Will-I-Am vocals. Track 3 (Party! Party! Party!) has a great tribal beat with vocals similar to the vocals used in Lion King. Track 5 (Volcano) is an amazing Electronic/Dance piece with orchestral strings... All Hans Zimmer and all are a great listen!

This is of course just a tip of the ice burg here, as I haven't mentioned the other 13 tracks. Hopefully you get the idea here, this is a wonderful sequel to the pre-existing Madagascar 2 soundtrack. Remember, the soundtrack that only featured 4 Zimmer tracks? That was sad although "Zoosters Breakout" was worth the price of the entire CD.

In summary the Madagascar 2 soundtrack features 7 Hans Zimmer instrumental pieces that in my opinion are worth the purchase. You even get Barry Manilow's "Copacabana" and Boston's late 70's hit "More Than A Feeling". 2 classics and a solid Zimmer score with fun Will-I-Am vocals make this soundtrack a worthy album for Zimmer collectors and all Madagascar movie enthusiasts!

5 out of 5 stars I like to Move it Move it!   November 18, 2008
I liked both of the Madagascar movies. I took my 4yr old twins to see Madagascar 2 at the theater and they loved it. We all loved the music. I didn't think you could do much to I like to Move It but Will.i.am put his own spin on it and took it to another level. I didn't know you could make that song better but he did. If you prefer the original "Move it" then I suggest you buy the first Madagascar soundtrack.

You have to like hip-hop, R&B, a little rap and a lot of soul music in order to enjoy this soundtrack. Music is the universal language and the gang did land in Africa after all. The soundtrack also takes in the consideration that the gang is from New York and just left Madagascar. they wanted reinvent the exploration process and discovering a new land that also meant new music.

To be honest I didn't like The Traveling Man song the first time I heard it in the movie. I was not impressed but as the movie went on and the song developed more the more they traveled through the storyline. By the end of the movie we waited until the last of the credits were off the screen, the music stopped and the lights came up before we left the theater.

I've seen a bunch of trailers and the making of the movie for Madagascar 2 the song Will.i.am was asked to contribute: "Traveling Man" has a story of its own that is special to Will.i.am. This song is all throughout the movie and gets a little better every time you hear it. If you like other stuff Will.i.am has done then you will like this soundtrack. If you liked the music you heard in the movie then you will like this soundtrack. If you are disconnected from the "soul train" (yeah I dated myself) then just wait until they make various types of soundtracks.

2 out of 5 stars Hans Zimmer Where Are You?   November 14, 2008

Having seen both Madagascar movies and enjoying them immensely, I wanted to own the soundtracks to hear Hans Zimmer's musical score. I read that the first Madagascar movie's soundtrack was very short in duration and contained very little of Han's Zimmer's music. I chanced buying the "Madagascar 2" soundtrack in hope that it contained more of it, but was greatly disappointed to find very little of it. Instead what you get are some of the pop songs such as "I Like To Move It" (not as good a rendition as in the first movie) and a whole lot of others that were not really in the movie except for a brief moment (example "Copacabana"). While these tunes are fine, a soundtrack that proclaims to have music by the composer Hans Zimmer should actually have a better representation of it than the meager offering contained on this (and the other Madagascar) CD. Perhaps there should have been two CDs produced with one that contained Hans Zimmer's score throughout and the other with the pop tunes. Whatever the case, this CD should have been better and I greatly regret purchasing it. Not recommended if Han's Zimmer's score is what you're after.
