| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Bob Seger has racked up a lot of worthy tracks over the years, but it took until 1994 for a greatest hits package to appear. Voilà. The bad news: We're missing an awful lot of songs here. Night Moves is Seger's crit-pick album, and a great place to start if you don't have any Seger at all. Next in the rankings is Stranger in Town. Otherwise, his highs are pretty scattered, which would make any best-of package a worthy investment. But if you want to get comprehensive, "Rock & Roll Never Forgets," "Fire Down Below," "Horizontal Bop," "Her Strut," "Betty Lou's Getting Out Tonight," and "Katmandu" aren't on this CD--and you'll have to go to the original albums to secure them. --Gavin McNett

Bob at his best...but I want more July 26, 2010 G. A. Misselhorn (Carbondale, IL) With so many artists easily available for download, the gh package has somewhat lost its allure. The music of Bob Seger presents a challenge though as he's nowhere to be found on (legal) download sites. This gives some added importance to creating a quality hits package for him. This set along with GH 2 would be difficult to improve on but between them, songs such as 'Even Now' and 'The Real Love' (hits during their time) are still no where to be found. Plus, the sound quality difference between GH (released in '94) and GH 2 (released in '03) is very noticeable and it looks like another 8+ years before we get a GH 3, which is unfortunate.
Bob Seger music CD June 24, 2010 M. Fouch (Mount Sterling, KY USA) I wish he was still "Running against the Wind". I loved every thing he produced. Old Time Rock and Roll is a classic--this song that will never be old.
Just take those old records off the shelf April 13, 2010 Tim Brough (Springfield, PA United States) For a true comprehensive overview of Bob Seger's best work, you need both volumes of his greatest hits. That way, you can get the solo/soundtrack singles (like the number one "Shakedown"). However, for a single disc set, there's plenty of steak here. Starting with Live Bullet and the road classic "Turn The Page" and ending with a pair of new recordings, the 14 songs here define Seger's successful singles.
Since his big three are "Night Moves," "Stranger in Town" and "Against The Wind," the lion's portion of this disc is drawn from those CD's. And any aficionado of classic rock radio is going to know most of these by heart. In Seger's own notes, he comments that "Old Time Rock And Roll" is the second most played jukebox record of all time, beaten out only by Patsy Cline's "Crazy." Seger knew how to lay down solid rocking/driving sounds, with "Hollywood Nights" being a terrific example. he also became a first class balladeer as time went on, evidenced here by "We Got Tonight" or "Mainstreet."
However, you still need "Her Strut," "Katmandu," "Rock and Roll Never Forgets" and others to get the complete set. So while I can fully recommend this first volume of Bob Seger's best, you really need to get this and Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 along with it.

If you like this kind of music, you can't go wrong adding this to your collection.
pretty close to the best March 6, 2010 S. Eriksson Great CD. Every song is excellent but for an artist like Bob Seger, who has so many big hits, they really should have made this a 2-CD set. Fortunately, there is a "Volume 2" now available. If you're just looking for one or two songs here, this is a good album with some extras you might not have thought of. If you're really a big fan though and don't already have this stuff, you're going to want to add Volume 2 to your order.
