Product Description JOIN THE YOUNG ATREYU AND THE FAITH OF A YOUNG BOY, BASTIAN, AS THEY BATTLE THE UNKNOWN OF THE NOTHING TO SAVE THE CREATURES OF FANTASIA AND THEIR CHILDLIKE EMPRESS.
Amazon.com essential video Wolfgang Petersen (In the Line of Fire) made his first English-language film with this 1984 fantasy about a boy (Barret Oliver) visualizing the stories of a book he's reading. The imagined tale involves another boy, a warrior (Noah Hathaway), and his efforts to save the empire of Fantasia from a nemesis called the Nothing. Whether or not the scenario sticks in the memory, what does linger are the unique effects, which are not quite like anything else. Plenty of good fairy-tale characters and memorable scenes, and the film even encourages kids to read. --Tom Keogh

Blu Ray is the way to see this movie July 30, 2010 Nate Train (USA) The Neverending Story has been my favorite movie ever since I was a young child and was very excited to see it come out on Blu Ray. I was skeptical on how Warner Brothers would do on the Blu Ray transfer and let me say that they did an amazing job.
Sure there's no special features on the disc at all and it's just the movie, but we now get something that we never had before. 5.1 Surround Sound.
If you have a surround sound system the first thing you will notice on the Blu Ray is how amazingly clear and loud the sound is.
For those who have seen the movie know that it's almost impossible to hear what name Bastian calls out when renaming the Empress as he stood at the window on the VHS/DVD.
In the Blu Ray with the new sound you will actually understand it. I was shocked and happy that they finally cleared that part up.
Warner Brothers did a really great job cleaning the audio up.
The picture is also amazing. Clear and colorful. A major difference from the DVD.
If you're going to watch this movie or own it then you have to get the Blu Ray.
Will your child like a 26 year old movie? June 4, 2010 A. Quick (Gretna, NE USA) Without a doubt. The graphics and special effects are pretty good for a movie this old. My 9 year old was a little scared the first time they watched it, not knowing what was comming next, but after that first viewing couldn't wait to watch it again, and has many times since. I was in my 20s when this movie came out, and I think I was more excited about watching this movie again than my child was. It's a great family movie that can teach parents that it's ok to let your kids be dreamers, and kids that great adventures are just a book away. You just have to open them.
a good story..."NeverEnding" May 14, 2010 S. J. Fleay (Bandung Java Indonesia) Thanks to the producers of this bluray disc......the Neverending Story had been all but forgotten. It was made back in the 80's and was well before CGI was with us.
We saw it whilst in Europe on one of the satellite providers...then in 4:3 format and with 2 channel stereo...we taped it tback then....the VHS is still around...why bother when this classic children's tale has been released in full wide screen and five channel sound.
Made in Germany the Neverending story is a tribute to the excellent work of Bavaria Film Studios.
If you see this film for the first time it is hard to believe there were no computers creating the special effects. "All done on film"
There's a Never Ending Story two...so far not on Blu Ray......we'll be looking out for this if it too goes into an HD release.

Terrible Blu-Ray - Avoid!! May 8, 2010 Paul Garvin (New Plymouth, New Zealand) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Blu-Ray release is so bad that some scenes appear to be out of focus because of the high contrast. The regular DVD gives the best result.
Super fast May 1, 2010 Krobo (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The product came in the exact condition it was advertised to be in and arrival was way quicker than I anticipated.
