Product Description Two adventurers accidentally end up on a ship to the New World and once there, they unintentionally discover El Dorado, the city of gold.
Amazon.com In its third foray into animated features, DreamWorks came up with something unfortunate: the routine animated picture. Plagued with production problems (it was originally conceived as a mold-breaking PG-13 adventure), the likable film is a Hope/Crosby-style road picture about two scalawags who stumble upon the Latin American paradise of El Dorado, the mythical city with riches of gold. Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Kline are quite fun as Miguel and Tuilo, two Spanish con artists who are shipwrecked in the New World with a scene-stealing horse. The pair follow a map to the secret city where their loyalty will be tested: do they return home rich men or continue to live in this paradise? Of course there are some obstacles: a high priest (Armand Assante) is locked in a power struggle with the benevolent chief (Edward James Olmos) and the perfunctory girlfriend (Rosie Perez) puts the two friends at odds. Like too many of the animated features of its time, The Road to El Dorado impresses only on a visual level (it's drenched in gorgeous greens and golds). The story and Elton John's songs are quite forgettable; only Branagh and Kline's playful banter keeps the film alive. The PG rating is for some bare backsides and a suggestion of off-screen sex that should soar right over the little ones' heads. Slick and light, it's a fine 83-minute entertainment for ages 5 and up, including the nondiscriminating adult. --Doug Thomas

One of the BEST animated films ever! September 2, 2010 J. Berger This movie has always been a family favorite. And, surprisingly so, I am not usually into Elton John that much. As a matter of fact, I mainly listen to hardcore and metal. So, I was shocked to discover that I rather enjoyed the music. So much that I even find myself singing along when I watch this. LOL The soundtrack is just amazing!
I do have to agree with some of the other reviewers. This definitely is not one of those "made for children" films. That is why it is rated PG. LOL But, if you're like me and you're a little more relaxed with the film restrictions for your children, this film is awesome!
I even allow my 2 1/2 year old to watch it, and she just loves it so much! Besides, she's way too young to understand what any of the other "adult content" is anyway. She even knows all of the songs! When it's movie night in our house, and she gets to choose the film, she almost always chooses this one. It is clearly a timeless classic. In my opinion, it is very suitable for anyone and everyone who can appreciate a great animated film.
Good DVD August 10, 2010 peanut (PA) Good DVD...wasn't expecting to hear swearing, but fortunately it only says a couple of swear words throughout the whole thing..arrived fast and in great shape..Thanks :-)
TRTED July 9, 2010 Alice Kingsley (Casper, WY USA) I love The Road to El Dorado, When I decided to watch this I said to myself, "We're gonna have fun." And I have been watching this when I was a kid but I totally forgot what else is going on. I know what it was about it's just I never knew what it was or who was in there until I forgot that Kevin Kline had Voiced Tulio. Loaded Dice is like gambling. So I have decided not to worry too much and have some more fun. I did see this movie and it is so energetical. I agree that Kevin and Kenneth did very well in this. I felt like I was there. So my favorite characters in this movie were Tulio and Miguel. My sister's favorite was Chel. I would most definitely watch it more often. I was never banned from this movie and My dad used to search for it for me but he never stops until he found it and gave it to me from when they are back from their cruise. It is a perfect movie to see every day including weekends. I always have dreams of having The Road to El Dorado. But It wasn't real happening until I had it. This movie makes me start to get props.
Just awesome. July 5, 2010 Evan Urtes Movie is simply the best and I don't know why there was not a sequel but there should have been.
